Dabai

Saw some writing in a local newspaper today on a local fruit only found in Sarawak, particularly mainly in Sibu, Sarikei and Kapit area. It's called 'dabai' or 'Sibu olive' by some foreigners. but we locally normally called it as dabai.

It's a type of small fruit, olive look-a-like fruits, that have rich creamy and a bit sour taste in it. One can't cook it just like that. It was normally prepare in two ways. Soak it in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes till the fruit is a smooth and eatable or put in under heavy sun to make to dry and smoothen the fruit before consuming it. and normally we just dip it in some salt for flavoring.

Some local restaurant dry this fruits and preserve it. They normally used it to cook a local type of fried rice - 'Nasi Goreng Dabai'. Nice fried rice that i personally like a lot.

Your Cool~~~
